Miya's Everyday Joy of Cooking ~ RIEview

If you’re a frequent fan on Line’s Webtoon, the familiar art style might have caught your attention. That’s right! The artist/author is none other than Omyo, who created ‘Salty Studio’ (highly recommended! Check it out here!) Let’s dive in and see what else is in this cute game!

Game Plot

A slice of life plot where you follow the life of Miya and her cooking adventures in Seoul. As the theme is slice-of-life, the game takes the everyday life of Miya and what she decides to cook for the day and runs with it. Each dish will begin with a short comic strip cutscenes on what led Miya to decide on the dish, which then players will assist by playing the levels needed until the dish is ready and featured on Yummygram.

You can replay the cutscenes or view previous dishes by clicking on the Yummygram. The features are similar to that of Instagram, and yes you can follow Miya on the actual Instagram link too!

Verdict (4.5/5)

Very cute short comic strips! Personally I find it doable in terms of the story to gameplay ratio, in contrast to Hana’s Story: Nonograms where there was too little story and quite complex gameplay. Fans of Omyo’s webtoons will surely enjoy the plot here too!

Character Diversity & Personality

The main protagonist is Miya, featuring her boyfriend Minho and her sister Sora, of course not forgetting Nacho the cat! Through the short cutscenes we can see briefly their personalities shining through.

Verdict (4/5)

Very entertaining to see their interactions, especially since Miya has a bubbly and likeable personality! I really wish Omyo gave longer cutscenes, seeing that there are no other sources to read more of their interactions! I like to imagine the characters as the characters from Salty Studios though, but more like the epilogue after all the ordeal Togeun and Sonagi went through haha…

Game & CG Art

Cute! Pretty! Omyo’s style of art is one of my favourites, and this game is no exception!

Verdict (5/5)

Considering that I downloaded this game after realising that it's Omyo's art, obviously this game ranks high on the visuals! Look at the CG visuals of the food, aren't they just Ghibli level of perfection??

Game Mechanics

It’s a match-2 kind of game, but unlike swapping tiles to match the same tiles, you have to tap on tiles with the same type to clear them. Like most match-3 games, you will only lose a heart if you fail the level. There are 3 stages when a dish is revealed: Preparation, Cooking, and Serving. Each stage has 5 levels, and at the end of each stage there is a mini game. At the end of the Serving stage after its mini game, the Yummygram post will be revealed to mark the end of the dish.

In the beginning you will only have access to the front area of the room. The living room will be unlocked either by spending 500 gold coins or clearing level 146. Both sides of the room can be decorated, where players can see how Nacho interacts with different decorations. Aside from the usual levels, players can play from Minho’s point of view on the daily 5-stages.

Verdict (4/5)

Very simple gameplay, but can be a bit tedious if you get bored of match-2 or while waiting for the next available heart to play. However! It’s important to remember that this is a casual game, so the aim of the game is to have players enjoy the game and the storyline at the player’s pace – not rushing through like the world ends tomorrow.

In-Game Events

N/A

A casual gameplay with slice-of-life plot is the main premise of Miya's Everyday Joy of Cooking. There's no rush in racing to finish up all available levels; only a brief reflection of how life should be. Every day is different, and when things get too complex or hectic, we can just step back and enjoy the simple things in life. So take a seat, grab your favourite drink, and enjoy the game!

Happy Gaming!
