Tintin Match ~ RIEview

I will admit that I didn’t grow up with the Tintin comics. In fact, it was only a few years back I discovered the series. If my memory serves me right, I might’ve started searching for the comics after the movie release “The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn”. So imagine my surprise when I came across this game in the Play Store several years later! But does the game live up to the success of the series?

Game Plot

While fans of the Tintin series are expecting an in-game storyline following some or if not most of what has transpired in the series, players will be disappointed to find none of that here. As there is no plot, therefore this section is ungraded: N/A

Character Diversity & Personality

While we see familiar faces like Tintin and Snowy, there isn’t real interaction between players and the characters, or even between the characters. So if you were expecting interactions, then I’m sorry to burst your bubble, but there is none here. If you are content with only seeing the characters on screen, then this shouldn’t be a problem.

Verdict (4/5)

Despite no interaction, I fall into the latter category of just happy enough to see the characters. It would be nice if the characters have special skills, like the Pokemons in the Pokemon Cafe Mix, but too bad there isn’t here.

Game & CG Art

The characters from the comics have been 3D-fied for the sake of the digital era. A sharp contrast can be noted when comparing the Tintin from the movie (also 3D) and the Tintin seen here. The game’s version of Tintin is more true to what we see in the comics, which would be a relief to fans who weren’t fond of the movie version Tintin.

Verdict (4.5/5)

While I do like the movie version, I still believe that it was a good move for the developers to stick to a version that is more similar to the comics, if not just to appeal to fans of the comics.

Game Mechanics

Tintin Match is a match-3 game, with tutorials available to guide made easy for players to learn. In addition, with every successful pass of a level you will gain materials needed to unlock a decoration for the current scene you’re playing on. However, that’s all there is to the game. There’s no added complexity to the game, save for the times when the tiles are too difficult to make a match.

Verdict (4/5)

On one hand, the game does live up to it’s name of being a Match-3 game. But if you were expecting a bit more things to do other than match-3, this is not that game.

In-Game Events

N/A

To be honest, despite my ratings, I am a little disappointed because Tintin Match has so much potential. The developers could have utilised the storylines from the comics, a bit similar to what Color Pieceout had done. It's a bit tragic too as there are more people familiar with the Tintin comics, so by staying true to its roots would have surely garnered more attention.

However! If you are just looking for something casual and don't mind the lack of the storyline, then check out Tintin Match.
